Significance

Seventy-four years after the Korean War started, the Korean War reminds us the cost of freedom and democracy. It urges us to look, and to remember more than three million men and women who stood up against evil for the sake of a nation and its people with their sheer determination and strength.

They fought for more than the twenty-one flags that formed the UN forces, but for a future yet to be realized, for the dream of tomorrow, with only the belief and the knowledge that freedom must remain in Korea. They spoke with their actions, and showed with certainty how freedom is won, against the harshest winters and the bleakest battles.

This year marks the 71st anniversary of the US-Korea Alliance, and the history of two countries that only grows stronger. A friendship, forged from the trust of men who have risked their lives together and the mutual love of freedom and democracy, revealed itself.

To not forget is to remember, something we can always hold in our hearts. It is our responsibility to pass this remarkable story of sacrifice and history beyond our generations and to the future.
